As Scovern and Johnston turned into Sac- ramento street they were struck from be- I binclosure at the entrance of the gam- California Hotel and decided to hold the affair in the Mechanics’ Pavilion on the evening of Wednesday, November 13. This date was selected on the report of the sub-committee, which waited on General Smith and ascertained that it was agree- able to him. The reception as decided upon will con- sist of an address of welcome, a review of State troops and a dance. Music will be furnished by the First Regiment In- fantry band. Special invitations will be sent to Governor Gage and Mayor Phelan as representatives respactively of the State and city. It is intended to issue 7500 invitations: besides 250 for the honored guests. . The fdrm of invitation as recom- mended by the committee of which Col- onel T. E. Beck is chairman was adopted. Carl Henry and D. Q. Troy were ap- pointed a committee to escort General Smith to the Payilion on the night of the |. reception in conjunction with the military escort. Colonel Huber will have charge of the light refreshments to be served in the ug‘per hall. The committee will meet next Thursday night to arrange the final details of the reception.
