F. Loud Returns From the Antipodes, Says American Steamships Will Ultimately Carry English Mails, — Ccngressman Eugene F. Loud returned yesterday morning on the steamship So- ncma after what he pronounces to have been a most pleasant and instructive voy- age to the Antipodes. The Congressman is chairman of the Committee on Post- offices and Post Roads, and on his visit to Sydney and Melbourne he represented the Postoffice Department in an effort to have the mail of New South Wales and Victoria sent to London by way of this port. 1n an interview Mr. Loud said: 1 found that there was a little prejudice down there against the Oceanic Steamship Company, the result o Jealousy of another steamship line, but we will uitimately gec the New South Wales and Victorian mails. I conferred with the | postal authorities of those two big States and feel confident that the time is not far dis- tant_when our vessels Will be carrying all the English mails of those States. Of course if we handle the malil from that | country we will handle all the traffic. 1 think we will get the mall service we are seck- | ing. The trip to Europe by this route i3 much more pleasant than the trip through thé Red Sea, where for two weeks the pas- seugers are forced tb sweiter in a climate with the thermometer at 112 degrees. Why, on the trip on the Oceanic line the thermom: eter never goes higher than 85 degrees. Then ihe company has fine steamers and grand ac- commodations. 1 was in the Parliament at Melbourne the day of President McKinley's funeral, and one ! of the Ministers paid a glowing tribute to his memory and the body adjourned out of re- spect. The Parliament at Sydney also ad- journed on that day. Mr, Loud was greatly impressed with the barbor of Pago Pago, and says it is his opinion that this Government got con- siderably the best of the division of the Samoan group. He says the harbor 13 ‘he Congressmah will return to Wash- ington in the latter part of November with Mrs. Loud, who accompanied him B 2 e e e e o 3 at noon of the 120th meridian, or at 8| 1., Greenwich mean time. et MILTQN, J. An Interesting Parallel and a .Val- uable Deduction Therefrom. Cutting down thistles no more relieves the land of thistles than does scouring the scalp cure dandruff. In each case per- manent relief can only come from eradi- cating permanently the cause. A germ that plows up the scalp in searching for the hair root, where it saps the vitality, causes dandruff, falling hair and bald- | 1f you kiil that germ, you'll have | no dandruff, but a luxuriant suit of hair.
