S8AN JOSE, Sept. 20.—The work of erect. ing & monument to the late President Mec- Kinley will be rushed. Organization of the monument committee was effected to- day by electing J. R. Lewis chairman and W. G. Alexander secretary. The tender of the $360 by the San Jose Art Association was accepted under the con- ditions named, that the balance of $10,000 be raised and the assocfation be consulted in regard to the style cf monument. The subscriptions now amount to about $6000 and no canvassing has been done. Special committees were named to have charge of the work and subscription lists are to be placed in the various banks. All the school children will be glven an opportunity to subscribe and the monu- ment will be the popular creation of the eatire county. GARDEN CITY MAN WEDS FORMER STANFORD CO-ED Charles Everett Bailey and Miss Celia ‘Wilbur Form a Life Part- nership. STANFORD UNIVERSITY, Sept. 21.— Miss Cella Wilbur, ex-'01, and Charles Everett Balley, a business man of San Jose, were united in marriage at the home of Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur at 1 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Mr. Baldwin of the Palo Alto Congregational Church officiating. Only relatives and cloge friends of the young couple were present. Miss Wilbur was a student in the Latin department while at Stanford and is a sis- ter of Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, head of the department of physiology and histol- ogy. Her home is in Riverside. SEATTLE, Sept. 21.—Notwithstanding assurances from the owners that every- thing is all right, there is some uneasi- ness in shipping circles over the non-ar- rival of the steamship Oregon. According to the most relfable Information, she left Nome for Seattle fourteen days ago, yet she has not been reported. She is the record bodt on the Nome route, having made the round trip a short time ago in twenty days. Her owners say that in the present case there was no reason why she should attempt to make fast time and that on this account there is no occasioa for arprehension. At the Ocemn House Hall the two socleties gave a concert, which was followed by a dance. To-morrow afternoon they will have a fcnic and dance at beautiful Wagners ark.
