Oakland Office San Francisco Call, 1118 Broadway, Sept. 12. The Hull case turns up strange things in the lives of the couple who are con- terding for the possession of $10,000 in Judge Hall's court. Mrs. Margaret J. Hull, the defendant, exhibited an old brass key while en the witness stand to- day, which she said had so far charmed away all fll-luck. It was given to her by Hull just after he had proposed to her on an Arizona stagecoach four years ago, she sald. During one of thelr squabbles later she told him that as long as she held that key he would never get the best of her in any laysuit. The charm has been successful to date. Hull secured an annulment of his marriage in Arizona last year, but he was ordered to pay his| wife $150 alimony. She defeated him in a suit in Rhode Island, whither he went to avold her, and she secured his arrest there on the charge that he was.a fugitive from | Jjustice, in order to hold him. She was successful in a race against him’from Arizona, when the $10,000 at issue in the present 'suit was the stake. She made the boast to-day that she would win the suit heing tried. Mrs. Hull reluctantly teld the story of how Hull proj to her in Arizona. It! happened while they were riding across | the desert from Chaparral to Jerome. Sie refused to consent at first, saying that she had had too many husbands already. But after a half hour of persuasion she | changed her mind and agreed to Hull's| entreaties. ‘Why did you change your mind?"” ask- ed the former husband’s attorney. “That’s a woman's privilege,” suggested Judge Hall. “‘Because I loved him,” was Mrs, Hull's | reply. “Did you marry him to get rid of him?” was_asked. “No, but he kept looking at me and I had to consent.” “That’s a man’'s privilege,” suggested the court again. Mrs. Hull spent almost the entire day on the stand, testifying as to the various bickerings between herself and husband. She was tearful at times and court had to be adjourned until these fits were o @ il @ | Builders’ Contracts. Gassmann Estate (owner), per E. Gassmann, with €.
