CALL HEADQUARTERS, SACRA- MENTO, March 12—The Senate bill cre- ating a State text book commission and defining its powers and duties was passed by the Assembly this morning by a vote | of 58 ayes, not an opposing vote being | heard. The bill embodies a radical change in | the present system, in placing the selec- lllcm of State text books directly in the hands of two commissioners, subject, ! however, to the approval of the State Board of Education. It futther provides for_the purchase or lease of copyrights, making it possible for the commissioners to obtain for the State series the best books of FEastern publishers instead of being compelied to have books compiled for the series. The bill carries an appropriation of $20,000 for carrying out the provisions of | the act. It taces effect immediately, if it meets with the approval of the Governor. e order for $10; It is not alon> the low price that has made our $1o made-to-measure suits so popular— quality is responsible to a great degree.
