A meeting of the presidents of the com- mercial bodies of San Francisco for the purpose of taking measures to secure the appointment of a Californian to the office of Consul General at Hongkong, now va- cant through the death of Rounsevelle Wildman, was held yesterday afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce. It was decided that the commercial bodies shall act as a unit in the selection of & candi- ate. San Francisco has become a great sta- tion on the highway to the Orient, and the future of this city and of the State of California depends, in a great measure, upon Asiatic trade.
