The Southern Pacific Company is equivping 150 cars with wooden tanks to be used until fron tank cars can be procured in sufficient numbers to go around. The extent of the Kern County fields kas called into exisience an incorporation known as the Kern County Iron Works, which will erect a plant to compete for the ofl fleld work. The superintendents in the Kern River fields will organize a mutual aid assocla- tion. The superintendents of over a score of companies have agreed to become mem- bers. The Kern and Sonoma Oll, Land and Development Company has been incor- porated in Arizona to operate in Kern and Sonoma counties. Claims are being located in the Suscol hills in Napa County, just across the -Solano County line, and, also to the north of the Fisk sulphur springs, in Yolo County. The Santa Barbora Independent says that drills are working on the beach at the Los Alamos ranch on_the property owned by Mrs. Catlierine Bell. A lease Las also been taken on the beach on the Rincon ranch at Goleta, Lands back of Aptos, Santa Cruz Coun- ty, have been leased to H. F. Anderson and others of Ben Lomond. Big Deal Under Way. If the proposed dcal goes through for the purchase of the stock of the Kern ver Company, so says the Bakersfieid Californian, the amount involved will be $400,000. Bakersfield companies are al interesting themselves in the fields below the lake, and we are informed that a number of wells will be {'started this spring. One company proposes fo start thhee. The hills northwest of Halwal Meadows are believed to be the most promisaiz of ‘any of the supposed fields. Indications are pronounced better than in the Kern fieids. The backers of these ventures expect that ol will be found If at all, at a considerable depth, and int to drill 2500 feet if necessar; The Red Bluff News reports at East- ern parties have been looking over the heep range of G. G. Kimball, in what is known as the Bald Hills in Shasta Coun- ty, comprising ubout 5500 acres, as an ofl propositl The Red Bluff Sentinel reports that the oil fever is spreading in Red Bluff and that every day parties are going out west of that town'to locate claims. The full amount necessary to erect the 0il Exchange building at Bakersfleld has been raised. There has been such a de- mand for membership that it has been considered advisable to raise the price from $100 to $200. 1t is probable that should any of the subscribers to membership be- come delinquent applicants for the seats will be accepted at the old rate.
