Erle Everson also tried his toy gun and if proper attention is not given him he will lose his right | hand. Both cases came to the Harbor Hos- pital yesterday morning while Dr. Dray was on watch. Sidney Smith is about 12 years old and his parents live at 609 Davis street. The lad was getting hix gun ready for the celebration on the Fourth and in order to test the weapon {put a blank charge In. It went off and the powder and wadding lodged in the palm of his hand. Sidney concealed the wound from his parents and went about the house as usual. The hand began to fester and some simple remedies were used. Yesterday morning the boy went into convulsions and nothing gave him relief. His muscles became rigid and his jaws locked so that nothing could be passed into his mouth. The Harbor Hospital was notified and in a short time the boy was removed in the ambulance. Dr. Dray found all the symptoms of tetanus and used all the means at his disposal to save the boy's 'lifs. Alec Fraser will not make the great showing on the Iourth that he expected. He was training a monkey to represent the (oddess of Liberty, in a pantomime he was to give at the 'Adams House on Sacramento street next Wednesday. The monkey cbjekled to Sfle dress and bit Fraser in half a dozen places yesterday morning. His wounds were dressed at the li;rbor Hospltal. A.mon. aged 11 years, yesterday undertook to emulate General Shafter in his famous Santiago battle. He loaded a minature cannon With black powder and, unlike the artillerymen, instead of pulling the string at a safe distance he placed a match to the vent.
