PG A benefit entertainment was given last night at Metropolitan Temple under the auspices of the Catholic Ladies’ Aid So- ciety. A large aydience was present to testify its apprecidtion of the noble work In which the organization is engaged—that of relieving disiressed families. Mrs. Margaret Deane read the quarterly financlal report, in which it was sbown that the twenty-six branches of the so- ciety, which are located In various cities throughout this State, have expended a total of $1625 64 Guring three months. Feb- Fuary, March ang April. In that time 281 families in distrcss were relieved, compris- ing a total of 823 members; 1601 visits had been made and 2665 pieces of clothing had been distributed. Tge total receipts were $4315 01. The membership has increased to Mrs. Deane made a felicitous speech, in Which she thauked those present for the kindly interest manifested in the work. She stated that the society dispensed charity without regard to creed or na- tonality, and the funds were gathered CHARITY'S SAKE largely from dues pald by members. Twice & year an appea! was made to the chari- | table people to assist in a benefit, and the | response had always been most generous, for which the society was deeply appre- | ciative, | An illustrated lecture entitled “A Visit to Ireland” was dellvered by Mrs. Hattie B. Among the points shown were the cities of Queenstown, Limerick and Cork, the Lakes of Killarney, the blarney stone, Eagles' Nest Mountain and others.
