Yesterday afternoon the first matinee was given, and 2000 people were on hand to enjoy the spectacle. In the evening the Olym- pic Club athletes divided® honors with the tots and freaks of the cakewalk fraternity. They gave an exhibitfon that created unbounded enthusiasm, conslsting of boxing, wrestling, fenec- ing, trapeze performing and tumbiing. The feature of the grand pageant was three-year-old Frankie Buttner and little Margaret Cronin, dressed, or rather undressed, as Hottenlots and doing e Hottentot cakewalk. But the bit of the evening was the cakewalk, the principals being Stage Manager C. G. J. Barr. Miss Leo La Salle and Miss Pearl Hickman. The trio appeared encircled with* electric light bulbs, the hghts in the pavilion being turned nearly out, and the ef- fect produced by the blazing. figures circling around the hall in the semi- darkness was extremely novel and pretty. At the conclusion of the exhl- bitfon Miss Hickman was presented with a large flower cross by admiring friends In the audience, while Miss La Salle was the recipient of a huge bas- ket of flowers, presented by Managers Buckley and Leonhardt. Blanche Trelese and Gladys Mon- tague, two Infantile artists, scored a great hit by doing a clever turn that electric RIS + T L S Lo B B S0 S BT 1S SEIO LIS 50 B0 B T Eie B B o Tie Bie i B o i o0 8E ’ would be a credit to professional adults, while little Cora Davis and Tohtinie Mangle did a plantation walk that was enthuslastically applauded. J. Walker Cole, the undefeated white champion of the United States, and Miss Georgie Brown gave a fine exhi- bition of cakewalking as a flne art that brought down the house. To-night will be Native Sons and Daughters’ night, and they will all be there. A special programme will be put on containing many unique fea- tures {n honor of the occasion.
