DENVER, Col.,, June 13.—The Omaha and Grant smelter and the Globe in Den- ver and the smelters in the trust at Pu- out by to-morrow night at 12 o'clock on account of the inauguration of the.eight- hour law in Colorado and the failure of the trust managers to agree with the em- loyes in the matter of hours and wages. 'he managers to-day ordered the super- intendents to “blow out” the furnaces. By the closing of the Grant and Globe smelters in this city about 1100 men will be out of employment. Lot Recovers From a Snake Bite. SANTA ROSA, June 13.—John Bailess, a young man of about 20 yvears and the son of a prominent resident of the Laguna district, was bitten by a rattlesnake sev- eral days ago. The [angs of the reptile entered just above his eve. Tt was be- lleved that his life could not be saved, but by careful attention he has been puil: ed through and is now pronounced out of danger. The recovery of'a vietim of a rattlesnake bite is unusual, and that voung Bailess has not in any way been affected is considered remarkable. —_——e——— “Father of Tucson” Dead.
