Imagine such ghastly nonsense as this parad- Thursday night the Building Trades Council openly condemned the race- track’s notorious adjuncts, the bookmaker’s stand and the city poolrooms. Last night the other central labor body took a similar but stronger action. The matter was first called to the attention of the council by Walter Goff of Carpenters’ Union 483. He made a brief speech in which he mentioned the action of the Supervisors as most commendable, and suggested that the council, as a representative body of workingmen, take some action. Mr. Goff was followed by Walter J. Macarthur of the Coast Seamen's Union. Mr. Macarthur briefly mentioned the evils of the racetrack, and supplemented his remarks with the introduction of the resolution and moved its adoption. It was seconded by M. Monahon of the Typographical Union. One delegate after another took the floor. All expressed themselves as unal- terably opposed to horse racing as at present conducted in this city, and ex- ing as medical science!
