THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, TUESDAY, JANUARY 3, 1899. SEATTLE WINS FROM OAKLAND BY ONE POINT A Good Game Pléyed in the Rain. Umpire—McDonald. Official scorer—J. W. Sta- pleton, —— e RAIN POSTPONED THE MEET. San Jose Cycle Races Will Be Held Next Sunday. The big bicycle meet that was to have been held yesterday at San Jose had to be postponed until next Sunday owing to the rain. Although the weather here in the forenoon was clearing, down there there were still occasional showers, and the Garden y Club, which was conduct- Ing the event, thought it best to await a more favorable day. Should it rain next Sunday the meet will go over for another week. The same entries, handicaps and match races will stand for the postponed date, and the riders will have the added benefit of another week’s training. Joe Sylvester and C. M. (“Bunt”) Smith of the Bay City Wheelmen rode what is believed to be the fi century maude in California for 189 They left the club house on Golden Gate avenue at midnight on Saturday, and finished in Alameda at 8 o'clockgsharp on Sunday morning, thus making #heir net time for the 100 miles water, ridden by Piggoft, took the place from Horton. The concluding event of the day was a mile and a sixteenth selling affair. Ma- mie G, at one time quoted at even money, was favorite and finished the tail ender.
