The four-masted schooner Defender left Hilo ten days before the bark Santiago, but Captain Johnson of the bark wagered that he would not be more than ten hours behind the Defender when the voyage was over. He kept his word, as both vessels re ached port yesterday morning. Twice this year the Santiago has made the run to Hilo in twelve days, and Captain Johnson says he will equal that on the run to San Francisco before the year is out.
