In the old Central tunnel workings of the Ophir, from the sill floor from the west cross- cut from the Mexican shaft, starting at a point 26 fect in from its mouth, the crosscut has been extended 14 feet, through porphyry and clay streaked Wwith quartz assaying 50 cents per ton; total length, 339 feet. In the Sierra Nevada mine (Layton tunnel workings) the east crosscut started at a point 40 feet south from the winze has been ad- vanced 16 feet; total length, 48 feet; face in porphyry and quartz, assaying 34 per ton. The new or Riley tunnel has been advanced during the week 52 feet; total length, 570 feet; face in porphyry. On the 900-foot level of the Unton shaft workings of the Slerra Nevada, west crosscut No. 5 started from the north lateral darift at a point 100 feet north from west cross- cut No. 4 and 450 feet north from the Sierra Nevadd shaft, was advanced 35 faet; total length, 6 feet; face in porphyry. No work was done in Hale & Norcross ground on the Comstock lode during the past week. In the Chollar mine they are making good progress with the repairs in main incline above the 1100 station and in the main airway on the 100 level north of north upraise. In the Potosi mine on the tunnel level the main joint Potosi and Bullion south drift was advanced 18 feet; total length, 852 feet; face in hard quartz assaying low.
