He affiliaiea with Cali- fornia Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, June 6, 1865, and in December following was installed as guard, and held that office continuously up to the time of his death. He received the degrees in California Council, Royal and Select Masons, September 9, 1865, and on the 1st of December, 1866, was installed as sentinel, and was regularly installed every year thereafter. He affiliated with California Commandery, Knights Templar, on the 15th day of Febru- ary, 1858, and to-day his name is the sixth in the roll of two hundred and fifteen members. Year after year, after he was first installed as sentinel of the commandery, he was reappointed on account of his superior fitness for that responsible office, each time that new officers were chosen. In Oc- tober, 1864, Mr. Oglesby was appointed by Grand Master Belcher grand tyler of the Grand Lodge of California, and after that date was reappointed to the same position at each session of that body. In each of these positions he was most faithful, and during his long term of service won the respect and esteem of every member of the order who ever had the pleasure of meeting him. His funeral will take place Thursday afternoon under the duspices of the Grand Lodge of California, from Masonic Temple, and all the organiza- tions of which he was a member will assist.
