ROTTANZI LOVED-— A GHASE FOR AN AGTRESS Run to Earth by a Vengeful Landlady. Arrested and Taken to Prison on a Charge of Grand Larceny. Accused of Stealing a Trunk Left With the Landlady as Security for Unpaid Rent. A dizzy blonde, who is sometimes known as Josie Gonzales snd at other times as Josie Fowler, and who claims to be an actress, was arrested yesterday morning and taken to the City Prison on a charge of grand larceny. She was dressed in deep mourning, which accentuated the blonde- ness of her hair. The warrant for ber arrest was sworn out by Mrs, Margaret Leahv, 326 O'Farrell street, on October 20. She was charged with stealing a trunk filled with clothes and other articles left in Mrs. Leahy’s care by Chester Bradley Fowler until he was able to vpay his indebtzdness to her, amounting to $95. Since Octobzr 20 Mrs. Leahy has been looking for Josie, but it was not until Monday night that she learned she was domiciled at 415 Jones street. She got a policeman yesterday morning to go with her 1o the house, and Josie was arrested. She declined to walk to the City Prison if “tuat woman,” referring to Mrs. Leahy, accompanied her, so Mrs. Leahy went home. Several friends called upon Josie at the prison and assured her that she would not remain long in a dungeon cell, as they would get her out on bonds, but Judge Low zallantly came to the rescue and re- leased her on her own recognizance. She declined with dignity to‘discuss the case, but Mrs, Leahy was not so reticent. According to Mrs, Leaby, Chester Bradley Fowler is Josie’s husband, but he left for the Klondike in September and gave her the custody of the trunk and its ¢ ontents till he could send her the §95 he owed her. *His wife, as she was called,” said Mrs. Leahy yesterday, ‘‘knew that the trunk was left in my custody for debt, but she slipped it out of the house at night while I had company, taking all her own things away also and leaving me with five weeks’ rent of her room unpaid. “I will tell some things in court, if Tam aliowed, that will not be pleasant to Josie Fowler, or, as she may often call herself, Josie Gonzales.” Josie is u friend of R. V. Redpath and Jonn Olsen, the two men arrested some months ago for swindling a merchant from Hawaii out of a consignment of silk hand- kerchiefs.
