There was an imposing array of legal talent in Judge Slack’s court on Monday, the occasion being the application for the confirmation of the referee’s report in the case of Adam Grant against the heirs of the Murphy estate, involving the parti- tion of certain property recently sold by order of the court for $450,000. Among the lawyers present were W. £. Wood, Reunben Lloyd, £. P. Deering, James G. Maguire, Joseph Leggett, T. L. Bergin, R. H. Levy, J. P. Langhorn aud others who were more or less remotely connected with the litigation. The price received for the property seems to have been satisfactory to all ‘parties in interest and the main question of discussion seemed to be in regard to the fees of attorneys and commissions of e ‘hlfltxev‘vnr:e reed that Referee Umbsen should receive $5000, and the only matter 20 be settled is how the §7000 fee of Lloyd & Wood shall be shared ong those bene- fited by the services of the attorneys last mamed. THE STOCK MARKET. Mining stocks were lower yesterday under a #alling off in business. The best price for Belcher was 71c, against 76 the preceding aay, and for Crown Foint 79c, against 85c. The north-enders were also off, and Con. Cal. & Va. sold down to $1 30 and Chollar to 68c. Ophir got below tho dollar mark and staid there. On the afiernoon cail the feeling was firmer, Bnd prices hardened somewhat, s will be seen by he list of sales. The Potosi assessment falls delinquent in office and the Hale & Norcross delinquent sale takes place also. The Justice mine haa $4443 on hand October 1. On the Bona Exchange Spring Valley stock sold 99, owing to the decision of the Supreme 1egO water case. ting of the Alpha Con. Mining Company has been called for Ociober 26. The Star of Plumas Mining Company of Plumas County has levied an assessment of 25¢ per share, delinquent November 20. The Montana Ore Purchasing Company bas de- clared a regvlar quarterly dividend of $1 per share, amounting to $20,000, payable October 20. The Spring Valley Water Company has de- clared the usual montbly dividend of b0c per share, payable on the 20th. The Pacific Surety Company has declared & Quarterly dividend of 2 per ceit, payable imme- diately. At the fifteenth annual meeting of the Stock ana Bond kxchange the following officers were re- elected: President, Jobn Perry Jr.: vice-president, Edward Pollitz: chairmau, R. Brown, and ireasurer, aniel Meyer. Charles Sutro Jr. was elected_vice-chairman in place of A. L Lauger- man. Edward Barry, wio has served as secretary of the excnange since its organization, resignea and Henry D, Wooite was appointed his successor, under salary.
