12 THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, TUESDAY, JULY 27, 1897. JGHPED FRON A WINDOW William Keustermann, Chenery Street, Attempts to Com- mit Suicide. He Is an 0ld Man and Became De-‘} spondent From Losing His Eyesight. William Keustermann, a blind man 63| years of age, living with his son-in-! C. Marlett, 84 Chenery sireet, a conductor | on the San Mateo electric road, jumped out of the second-story window between 3 and 4 o’clock yesterday morning with the intention of committing suicide. The car-dispatcher of the San Mateo road telephoned to Lieutenant Burke at the Seventeenth-street police station that Keustermann had jumped out of the wi dow and was lying on the sidewalk dead. He asked the lieutenart to notify the Cor- cner's office to send the Morgue wagon. The lieutenant did so, but m time Policemen Dennen and King, whose beats are in that locality, had heard of the oc- currence, and made an investigation. They found that Keustermann was not dead, but was serfously injured. His ie:t leg was broken above the ankle, and he was apparently suffering from internal in- juries. 3 The old man refused to say anything, but his son-in-law told the officers that since losing his sight the old man had been despondent, and he jumped out of the window to ¢nd his life. Keustermann refused to go_to the City and Couniy Hospital, and Dr. Plymire was summoned and attended to his in- juries. ——————— Collateral Inheritance Tax.
