Judd & Co., real es:ate agente, Pa k street, Alameda, and represented that he might purchase the Trrrace Swimming Baths, belonging to the W. B. Carr esiate. A clerk went witi him to show him over the property, and late in ihe afiernoon Wright returned to the « flice, He said he would make the purchase, and gave a check for $650 on the Bank of British Coiumbia as & deposit. As it wasafter banking hours Wrightsai he was short of ready cash and a temyorarv loan of $20 would be acceptable. ‘lhe firm wrotea check for $20 and got it cashed for Wright by a friend, Wright promis.ng to return { yesterday morning and pay back the amount. Wright failed to return, and inquiries at the Bank of British Columbia elicited the information that the $650 check was worthless, as no such man as Benjamin Wright had an account there. Wright is described as about 6 feet tall, between 40 and 45 years of age, dark com- plexion, dark musiache, bair slightly - tinged with gray, wore a dark suit, Derby hat, gold watch ana chain, isa smooth talker and gentlemanly in appearance. FIGHTS IN PROSPECT. St. George’s Club Proposes to Match Pugilists. The St. George Club management has arranged to hold a pugilistic tournament in Woodward’s Pavilion on August 11.
