THE SAN FRANCI 30 CALL, FRIDAY, MAY 7 1897 - e e DESPONDENCY AND POISON. Suicide of a Laborer Who Had Qut of Work for a Long Time. Arthar G. Kempe, a laborer, was found dead in bed in the Alpha iouse, at the corner of East and Market stree:, at 11:30 o’clock yesterday forenoon. A (wo-ounce vial labeled **Horse liniment for external use” stood on a small table at the head of the bed. All the contents save a few drops were gone, and these smell and taste like laudanum. The deceased had been out of work for & Jong time and was very despondent. There is no doubt that he committed suicide by taking poison. He wasa na- tive of England, aged 40 year-, Been Deputy Coroner McCormick removed the body to the Morgu st NO FUNDS IN BANEK A Pawnbroker' Wayward Son Gets Himself Into Trouble. Isadore Wood has sworn 10 a complaint charging Joseph A. Peckerman, son of a Third-street pawnbroker, with obtaining money by false pretenses. A claim is made that Peckerman owed Wood $1: and in payment tendered hiw a check for $30 on Wells, Fargo & Co.’s bank, receiv- ine the balance in cash.
