The Cutting Packing Company has the following forecast of the fruit crop this year, as regards the recent frosts: Aside from the business aspect of the market the principal feature of interast has been the continued irosts, occurrliig at intervals during the past thirty days, that have been unpuralleled in the history of the fruit industry of the State. It was supposed for awkile that the early frosts in March were of temporary effect and short-lived in their results, and such might bave been the case had tuey not been followed by others of a stili more severe character, not only for one ortwo days, but for & week or more. Of course, it is unreasonable to suppose that the dusiness community as & whole will ugree in the conclusions that we have been forced to arrive at, that the crop as s whole has been seriously damaged, vecause they have been over and over again deceived in thiy respect in Previcas years, but the fact remains, neveriheles and although we are aly of such serious damage, in the present case we are forced to state, s an houest conclusion, that the ©rop ns a whole hay been damaged to the extent of | $nily 40 per cent. We do not say by this that there will be 60 per cent of an average crop, but rather that the crop of the present year bas been dumaged in that pro- portion. This damage applies in 2 general way 1o all fruit localittes io the State, although it was confined for quite awhile to certain_localitfes, notably those north of the latitude of Marysville, during the first half of March, since which date Boib ihe frosis and continued cold weather and rains nave op lisastrously io all other locail- without there is no frult re- n in the State, large or small, but whit has been ited and the crop depleied thereby. This ap- cially to almonds, apricots, cherries, plie peaches and prunes—pears and plums have not, as | & whole, heen treated so badly. Although our information 1s special and reliable, we are not fully Dbecsuse the recuperating forces of the deciduous fruit-tree are immense, and good results may yet foliow if the weather bé propitious: but as it will wke fully a mouth to arrive at such conclu sion we thatit is proper to'put the facts as they . now spear and follow them iater by foriher informa- T 6 IL may come {0 US. .
