The following official dispaich was received ye terday from Virginia City: The Dazet mill at Sil- ver City, under control of the company, com- menced crushing Hale & Norcross ore this morn- ing. The ore is hauled by teams from the mine to the mill for 80 cents per ton. The Bank of California bas declared a quarterly dividend of 83 per share, payable to-day. In the south level, shaft 1, we have struck ore of a high grade and it is improving as we o in. “The ore prospects well in free gold and carries a large percentage of sulphurets. We have now run abous fifteen feet in this and it shows up well in the face of the drift. We are running a tunnel on the ledge at the base of the hill at the Wide Awake. The outlook is extremely encouraging. are going on the ledge with stringers of quartz comingin. The appearances indicate that we will not hav: to run very far before coming to the quariz. This tunnel if prosecuted will soon afford & plentiful subply of ore o keep the mill running continuously and make the mine a regular divi- d end-paying mine. A newspaper woman, who sends society letters from Washington to one of the Philadelphia papers, is going about telling this story on a certain Senator, whose princely “entertainments are famous the country over. She went to his house one night on the occasion of a big reception. The first person she saw was the host him- self. He asked her errand courteously. “I came to get the ladies’ gowns,’’ said she. The Senator glanced into the great drawing-room at the dazzle and gleam of bare shoulders. “Don’t you think they need all they have?’ said he.—Washington Post. ——————————— THE CALL CALENDAR.
