CHICAGO, T1.1., Dec. 17.— W heat was lower this morning than it was at the close of yesterday’s ses- sion. The decline met with only indifferent oppo- sition until prices were below “puts,” when the buying against those priviiezes proved adequate to sustain and cause a rally in the market. The Northwestern receipts were large this' morning, 1315 curs arriving, against 1260 last Tuesday and 593 a year ago. The unabated movement in that section continues 10 be the Jeading detrimental agent in the market. The cheapuess of other * commodities bas s like sentimental influence for Tlinois. Receipts at Chicago were 287 cars and 110,335 bushels were taken from store. Opening Liverpool cables were steady to 14d lower. Clos- ing ones were easy at the decline. Export clear- ances aggregated 291,840 bushels, including wheat and flour. Southwestern points wired that the wheat fields in that section were covered with water where snow_had previously peen. The mar- ket acted very firm after the Tecelpt of this in- formation, prices advancing a full cent from the insiae. but 10sing a part of the sain later. Closing Continental cables were generally lower. Brad- street's reported an_increase of 3.751,000 bushels in the world’s available supply, which curbed the | vigor of the buying and caused recessions. May wheat opened at 5954¢, sold between 5314@6014c¢, closing at 60c, Y4@3ge higher than XEstimated rece(pts for (o-morrow 212 cars. JORN—Receipts of corn this morning were not rable to any advancement in prices. They were 714 cars, 139 more than estimated. The oui~ put from store was only 1278 bushels, These weak- ening facts, together with the stumpy condition of wheat during the morning, proved ingnrmountable. Liverpool cables were jd lower. Ixport clear- ances ai Atlantic ports were 208,625 bushel Bradstreet’s reporied, a decrease i the avaiiable | supply of 93.000 bushels. PROVISIONS—It lovked like better prices for provisions at the star., but the prospective im- provement was a delusion. The first report from the yards was an encouraging one, but late advices were quite to the contrary. Wheat and othes grains afforded scant basis for hope of higher values early. After the opening, which was slightly in advance of yesterday’s ciose, the selling became large enongh to cause a decline. May pork closed 734@10c lower, May lard and ribs each 6 lower.
