Brooks, collector for the Co- oprative Window - cleaning Company, was arrested by Sergeant Duncan yes- | L., Ca terdav upon a warrant issued complaint of E. T. Hicks, a vate detective, who assault with a deadly weapon. In obtain- ing the warrant the complainant stated that he had been requestéd by Mrs. Brooks and her brother, whose name is Winthrop, to watch Brooks, find out where he spent his time and in whose company. He said he iearned that Brooks was receiving a salary of $30 a month and obtaining a por- tion of $3 a week his wife w woman in a Sutter-street store ; that Brooks was spending more than $1a day to pay for his own meals and those of a tyve- writer who worked in .an office where Brooks had a desk. He said be made a report to Mrs. Brooks and her brother, also to the manager of the window-cleaning company, and that Monday night Brooks called him into his office, drew a revolver, and, pointing it at his head, threatened to shoot him for the report he had made, but did not carry out his threat. The complainant said he passed out into the hall and got down bv the elevator to avoid trouble with Brooks. Upon this showing the warrant wa sued.
