14 THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1895 ALL FOR THE DEBUTANTES, Society Buds Open the Friday Night Club Sea- son. NAMES OF THOSE PRESENT. It Was a Night of Elegant Enjoy- ment—Other Notable Society Events. The event of the week was the first meeting of the Friday Night Club at 0dd Fellows’ Hall. This is the first time in the past six years that there bha: not been ent storm and that the snow-white canvas, the finest of its kind for dancing, has not been ruined. The hall was not expected to look par- ticularly well last evening, but still it did make quite a pretty appearance. The guests were unusually late in arriving, and in consequence supper was not announced until 12:30. The season’s debutantes were all present and looked particularly pretty in their new white froc! Of course they were all belles, and it was not long before they got over their fright. There are some strik- ingly bandsome and pretty girls among them. They are all very good dancers and fully hold up the reputation this City ring for beautiful girls. ic under the direction of Valentine Hube: especially good, and some of the new >s recently brought out from the East proved be as good as was expected. The waits were not lon 1d there was spirited danc ck, the hour t which all the ciub meetings stop. As theyp dered to be a debu the decorations of the ba ht in color, with ient d of green shrub- bery to show o tiful effects of the rator’s art ge was fes- the bea Over th tooned blue and white the same was drooped over the front. The whole stage was filled with immense ts and ferns, with several large sof different colored chrysanthe- were shields of z with a ground squares, the whole nches of ferns. aped arrangements standing up from the llery railing, and from the center of the ceiling were vended streamers of the the ends of which were either an | a or a large lantern. Opposite the er the main door, was a large ci design bound with ferns. New white canvas on the floor added to the beauty of the scene, and protected the gowns of the Jadies. The halls were also covered with canvas of ker shade. The management of the club has always vaid particular attention to the supper- rooms, and here the comfort of the mem- bers was fully considered. All drafts were shut out by storm screens, and over the heavy burlap matting was a new crash of a green color, with a neat figure thereon. The pillars were entwined with smilaxand ferns, and an elaborate supper was served upon the numerous tete-a-tete tables. The supper hour was most agreeably spent, and then the dancers again sought the main baliroom, where the dancing was re- sumed and kept up until a reasonably late hour. At the next gathering on December 20 ! the Christmas cotillon will be the feature. Miss Jjessie Coleman came over irom Oakiand to attend the assembly, and wore one of her new gowns of pink brocade, | which admirably suited her blonde com- plexion.
