Y., Nov. 7.—In the early change there was a general decline in prices of 14 to 34 per cent, due to an ad- vance in posted rates of foreign exchange to $4 8815 and $4 90. The rise in rates of course led t0 the usual discussion about £old exports, but up to the close of business no arrangement had been made for the shipment of the metal. London was a seller of stocks at this time, especially St. Paul and Pacific preferred. The last named sold as low 8s 1154, and the reports of a heavy assessment were revived. CHICAGO MARKETS, CHICAGO, 1ir, Nov. 7.—The bears in Wheat were made happy this morning by the continw tion of rain, while the bulls were correspondingly disappolnted. One eighth o 140¢ a cont was taken from prices before trading began, and, under all- round liberal offerings, a decline of another 4c 100K place within the first half hour, “puis” then coming into place as a support. Scattered scalp- ing trades were the only kind at all prominent, the lucal crowa buying enough to carry prices back to the opening tigure, nnding encouragement o do so iothe clearances of Wheat and Flour from New York, which were unusually large. The Cinclunat Price Current reported un- changed crop conaitions for the past week. Re- ceipts were large at 509 cars for Chicago and 1414 inthe Northwest. Withdrawals from store were 65,954 bushels, and the total shipments of wheat and flour from Atlantic ports aggregated 686,523 bushels, of which 340.319 bushels were from New York. Liverpool cables were quiet and unchanged at the opening, but closing advices were weak and ower. Continental cables were irregular. CORN—The arrivals of corn this morning again overran the esumste freely, 856 cars being in- spected in, where but 750 were expected. Despite this circumstance, however. the market opened and ruled firm to-day, the rainy weather, it being argued, tending to retard the intertor movement: The Cincinnati Price Current reported delay in husking, owing 10 dry staiks. Liverpool cables were firm and slightly bigher. Withdrawals from store werc light at 44,434 and 279,000 bushels cleared at the seaboard. The cash demand for corn was good and the prices in that branch were 34c bigher. May corn opened at 2934c, sold at 2914@29%5c. closing at the opening price, a shade over yesterday. Estimated receipts for to-morrow 400 cars OATS There were no developments in the trade Taking its motive from corn, the market maintained a Strong tone throughout the session. UNION STOCKYARDS, ILL, Nov. 7.—Cattle receipts to-day were moderate, but notwihstanding the wet and unfavorable weather the buying was tolerably brisk and prices for good were about 10c higher. ~There was an active demand for hogs and an advance of 5c was made, but after the bulk of the offerings changed hands the tone became easier.
