CHICAGO, L1, Oct. 3.—The most potent in- fluence indefining the tone of wheat at the open- ing this morning was the reports of rains in France and Germany. CROWN POINT.—The west crosscut on the 700 level, Opposite No. 2 east crosscut, has been ex- tended eight feet during the weex, and Is now out ihirty-two feet; the face shows low-grade quartz. There having been enough ore accumulated in the dumps to furnish the mill for the remainder of the month, on the night of the 25th work in the mine was suspended and resumed agalu on the morning of the 30th. Have shipped to the Mexican mill for reduction during the past week 407 tons of ore, the average battery sample since last report giving $9 73, of which 88 66 was gold. BELCHER—There has been 10 work done in the mine during the past week. Have been repairing the ore and waste tracks on the surface. In the Bodie Consolidated mine the south drift from the west crosscut in the Fortuna vein on the 300-foot level is exiended 22 feet. The face shows a ledge formation 6 inches wide which has no value. The east crosscut from the south drift on the 400 level of the Mono mine is still in hard POTphyry. The directors of the Hale & Norcross Mining Company have decided to have some 300 tons of | good ore, ac mulated in the bins at the mine, worked at the Brunswick mill, that will begin 1o crush it October 15, Pending the receipt of bul'ion from this crushing the company will borrow gufli- clent money from the Nevada Bank to pay the expenses of the mine and thus avert any imme- diate necessity for levying an assessmenc.
