[ . cialty 12 : THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1895 e R S e SR e e e e S el e Bo i o AR el e SR e SR s L e L POLICE PROMOTIONS. Speculation as to What the Commis- sioners Will Do at Their Meet- ing To-Night. The regular meeting of the Police Com- missioners was not held last night. It will be held to-night instead, when it is ex- pected that the new captain, five lieuten- ants and three extra detectives will be ap- pointed. Five new sergeants and six to take the place of the one promoted to the position of captain and the five promoted as lieutenants will also probably be ap- pomnted. A detective will be appointed to fill the vancancy caused by the death of Daniel Coffey. B Who the new captain will be is a mys- tery. The three Commissioners when asked the question about ten days ago declined to commit themselves. The name of Ser- geant Gillen, now acting as lieutenant at the Central Police Station, was mentioned, but it was also stated there were two others in the field. The Commussioners declined to divulge their names. Speculation has been rife on the subject, but although sev- eral names are mentioned no one knows the key to the riddle. Now that the Board of Supervisors has fipally adopted the tax levy, which in- cludes tne appropriation for the seventy- five new men, their appointments will be made as speedily as possible. There are hundreds of applicants to select from. SAN **CALL. BUSINESS OFFICE of the San Francls;o CALI—~ 730 Market street, open until 12 o'ciock every Dight in the year.
