Again the gold expor:s are giving opera- tors some concern. ‘To-day was an off day in thé exchange market, and little was . heard about gold shipments. The com- rlaint of a scarcity of orders from’ the outside was general, and it has been lately.. Local traders and scalpers were the principal operators in the market to-day. The tone was irregular, the first. feeling being weak, because of the failure of ‘the predicted frosts in the Northwest to materialize. Yesterdey’s prices declined on a belief that a light freeze could work no injury, and to-day further weakness was presented because the temperatiire did not decline. Later, a report that.the weather burean had issued a special bulletin warning of a fall of ‘30 to 40 degrees in the temperature in the Northwest cansed s sudden rally, but upon the report having been proved to be without foundation, the strength dis- lpx::ud. eipts to-day were 74 cars for Chicago and 130 in the Northwest. Withdrawals from store were 140,000, and 186,629 bushels cleared at the sea- board. The Cincinnati Price Current reported no change in the wheat-crop situation during the past week. Liverpool cables were lower, but steady at the decline. Berlin closed higher. This was & holiday ‘in_France, conse- quently Paris was Dot quoted. The Cinciuaaii Price Current reported that rain was needed for the growing grain, but the crowd were not sensibly af- fected by the statement. . Liverpool cables were quiet and lower. Receipts were large at 621 cars and 643 are estimated for_to-morrow. Withdraw- als from store were 210,885 bushels and 210,219 bushels cleared at the seaboard. When the bogus frost predictions were circulated corn firmed up, afterward remaining steady and advancing near th> close, with wheat, September corn opened at 31 4c. s0ld between that and 38c, closing at 377%¢, higher than yesterday. Oats—Through the absence of either buyingor selling orders in oats prices remained practically at a standstill this morning. The natural affinity with wheat and corn caused the tone to vary with those grains, but values held within narrow limits. were 182 cars and 226 are estimated for rrow. There were no oats taken from store. An advance took place near the close, the action of othe: the factor. September oats closed & sterday. Flax was firm. In pork, September opened than it closed yesterday. while the other options opened lower, but soon worked into line. Lard and ribs opened easy and recovered, after- ward continuing strong. The firmness was attri- buted to the natural desire of shorts Lo close up their trades, the late decline having given sellers big profits. The hog market was lower, but that did not seem to cut any. figure with traders in product. September pork closed 25¢ higher, Sep- tember lard 10c higher and September ribs 1234 higher.
