Palo Alto is to have an ornamental and at the same time a very commodious depot building at the Southern Pacific station. 8o much was decided yesterday whena committee of citizens of Palo Alto met General Superintendent Fillmore of the railway company and discussed the pro- posed building. The committee was pileased with the railway people’s offer, and returned home with the assurance that a handsome station-house will be built immediately. The Flans were not quite finished, as some alterations had to be made in the internal arrangements. About a year ago Mrs. Stanford offered a large site nearly opposite the small wooden station-house, and the railway company had plans prepared at her instigation for a stone depot similar to the building at San Carlos, though in harmony with the prevailing style of the university in color and character. . And now a building as close as possible to the original design is to be constructed ———— QUARTZ NEAR OLETA. Rich Finds of Metallic Rock Discovered in Amador County. 8. J. Holsinger of Amador County was in the City yesterday. In conversation with a CALL reporter he said: “Some rich finds of quartz, bearing free gold and valu- able sulphurets, have been discovered near Oleta, Amador County. That section dur- ing the fifties was one of the richest placer camps on the coast. Where the gold came from was a problem the sturdy miners who secured the treasures never stopped to solve. They contented themselves with getting the metal. “Indian Creek was one of the streams which yielded its millions. ‘Rich Gulch’ was second in importance. Last week Henry Linton and J. H. Lawson took up the thread where the miners jeft it. At the head of ‘Rich Guleh’ Mr. Linton dis- covered a three-foot vein. A trial crush- ing proved the rock to contain $36 gold and rich sulphurets not yet assayed. Mr. Lawson became interested in a story told by an pld-timer to the effect that the miners. who worked Indian Creek lost the channel at Lot’s Hill. After months of prospecting a lead of ribbon rock a ledge three and a half feet in width was discovered. The ore assays from $10 to $500 per ton. Mr. Lawson is now in this City with a view of securing capital with which to erect a mill.” —————— The Ellen Gallagher Estate. Judge Daingerfield yesterday signed an order that Rev. Dennis Nugent, executor of the Ellen Gallagher estate, appear in_court on August 16 to show why he should not be re- moved from the position. HOTEL ARRIVALS. PALACE HOTEL.
