Steunart gives the re- ceipts of coal at this port during the first six months of 1895 at 658,400 tons, against 621,600 tons during the same time in 1894. The circular says: “If cheap fuel will aid the reviving indus- tries and help promote the general prosperity of the State, the peopie ought to be welk satistied with the immediate prospect on this point, &S the steam coal from Kngland and Australia is being loaded in larger quantities and sold at lower ra ver before in the history of the State. This arises in a great measure from the large .amount of tonnage Secking this port for the purpose of CAITying away the grain of the State. Abundance. of tounage secking this port puts money in the pockets of the manufacturer ard farmer; it means low-priced fuel to the maunfacturer and 10w rates of freight for the farmers’ wheat. i EXCHANGE AN D BULLION.
