The market was very steady at the close, September oats gaining ac on the das The provision market was affected for an hour after the opening by wheat, but later on in the day it took corn for iis leader and recovered a small de- cline made at the start, leaving off firm without change from Saturday’s closing rates. Y., June 18.—Liquidation was the order of the day in grain to-day. Big blocks of WorLb. wheat were thrown over, resulting in a 3¢ break, of which 1t4c was finally recovered. Trading was active all day, with total transactions of 2: 540,000 bushels. On the down grade a g0od man; stop orders were caught, thus increasing the offer- ings and adding to the bulls’ demoralizztion. Bear points were thick, among the most jmportant being the Teport of heavy Russfan shipments for the week, lower cables with considerable foreign selling, good rains West. insuring better crop news. The public kept aloof to-day, which was another discouragement to the bulls. In the after- noon, however, the market braced up considerably on talk of (00 much ran and prospects of a wet harvest in the Southwest, coupled with an im proved export demand. Traders who sold freely all the forenoon now tumbled over each other in their eagerness to cover, resuiting in a sharp rally, the close being strong. The range on July, which opened at 77%5e, was to 78c, down (o 76%jc, and closing at 778jc. STOCKS IN LONDON. NEW YORK. N.
