The | cables brought lower quotations from abroad; the country was still being wet down in an irregular way by the numerous thunderstorms, and primary | market receipts continued to belie the theory of | any much greater scarcity behind the visible than is usual at this season of the About the only bullish feature in the early news was the official report of the Kansas Agricultural Bureau. That reported 11 per cent smeller acreage sown last all | than on the year before, and, of that reduced acre- age, the report said that 33 per cent had been ren- dered practically useless. The receipts at Minneapolis and Duluth were 889 cars, compared with 328 s year 8go. Primary market receipts were 271,000 bushels, against 259,000 bushels on Tuesday of last week and 167, 000 bushels on the corresponding day of the year before. Export clearances of wheat and flour for twenty-four hours from the Atlantic seaboard amounted to 342,000 bushels. By special cable o the Board of Trade the Argentine shipments for the week were given as 1,540,000 bushels and those of Russia at 3,760,000 bushels. The terper of the crowd was very bullish until after the re- ceipt of Bradstreet’s statement of the week's changes in the world’s visibie supply, and that Proving to be a decrease of 4,100,000 bushels in- stead of only 2,500,000 bushels decrease, as had been calculated upon, it turned the general senti- ment and the eves of traders from Lheir previons too exclusive contemplation of the besrish feature | of the situation. ESTOCKS IN LONDON, NEW YORK, N. Y. May 7.—The Evening Post’s London cablegram says: The stock markets were buoyant to-day, although the settlement be- gins to-morrow. The ylelding by Japan to Rus- sia’s demands and the improved political outlook were the main factors. The tone here is very bull- ish. American railroad bonds, which have been steadily absorbed for some time past, are now bougnt with some eagerness, and brokers get many inguiries from the public concerning ordi- nary stocks. The general rise throughout was chiéfly on Continental buying. The closing was at about the best, except for Canadian Paclfics, which after touching 55 on bears’ closing relapsed to 6535 Mexican sharesand bonds were firm with silver. South Americans were firm except Brazils, which have fallen on the continued decline in exchange. The trade returns for April, making allowance for Eastern holidays, show practically no movement either way. There is a rumor that the Bank of England has just _invested in a bigline of City of New York bonds. I cannot confirm it. THE WOOL MARKET. PHILADELPHIA, Pa., May 7.—Wool quiet, but steady. Yesterday was another weak day and the best prices were considerably lower than those of Mon- day. Con. Cal. & Virginia sold down to $2 75, Ophir to $1 60, Hale & Norcross to $1 15, Mexican 10 68c, Slerra Nevada to 67c and Occidental to 25c. The Bodies were also weak, Bodie declining to $1 05 and Mono to 17c. NOTES. The annual meetings of the Goleta, Montecito and Sterling mining companies of Mono County and those of the North Star, Original Empire and Grass Valley Water Company of Nevada County take place to-day. The Occidental reports a cash balance of $1760, Julia $1687 and the Syndicate $795. Tn the Occidental the south drift from the west crosscut, 500 level, has been extended 7 feet through hard quartz; total length 19 feet. The ore is of low value. ‘Che winze started in the north drift on the 500 level has been sunk 5 feet through ore assaying $34 per ton. The west crosscut on the 550 level is in 135 feet, having been extended 11 feet during the week. At a point 128 feet in the crosscut cut a seam of ore which proved to be 3 feet wide and assays from $0 t0 $60 per ton. The seam of ore corresponds with the first seam of ore found above in the 500 level crosscut, and we expect to cut the second seam in the 550 crosscut further west. The latest private advices from the Comstock re- port acontinued good showing on the™ ourth, fifth and sixth floors of the 1750 level development of ore in the Con. Cal. & Va.
