12 THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL, FRIDAY, MAY 3, 1895. CREDTORS ILL MOUEH Theatrical Dullness Depre- ciates the Estate of Charles Meyer. Final Settlement of the Account and Overruling of Ob- Jections. The contest filed by creditors to the final account of the executrix of the estate of Charles Meyer, the late proprietor of the Wigwam Theater, came to an abrupt con- clusion yesterday. After hearing the tes- timony Judge Slack overruled the objec- tions to the account and ordered a final settlement of the estate. Prior to the death of Charles Meyer the Wigwam had done a thriving busine At the same time his estate was heav: involved and to-day creditors representing a liability of about $27,000 remain uns: fied. Meyer died on Christmas morning, 1893, and thereafter owing to a drop in business the theater fell from a §$500 a month enterprise to an actual loss, accord- ing to the execut In April she sold out for $400. 5 On these facts an exceedingly bitter con- test was waged. The creditors filed specific objections to the final account, alleging fraud of all kinds, including falsification of the books, fraudulent transfer and inci- dental trickery in order to implicate the executrix and her attorneys. The attempt fell through hopelessly, however. Even the attorney for the creditors admitted that no fraud had been established, and said he expected a Scotch verdict of ‘“not proven.’ Judge Slack commended the candor of the avowal and expressed his belief in the in- tegrity of the executrix. At the same time, he said, he thought the_objections of the creditors had been made in good faith, owing to & natural inability to understand how the estate could have so rapidly de- | preciated. The answer of the problem was doubtless in the withdrawal of the master’s experienced eye and hand. The objections were overruled, and on the testimony of the executrix the estate was ordered settled. e REAL ESTATE TRANSAOTIONS. George and Hattie J. Faston to W. L.
