CHICAGO MARKETS, CHICAGO. ILL., April 9.—Fair weather and easy cables resulied in sy market to-day. May closing Ve lower, liberal clearances and good cash demand preventing further decline. Corn closed &4 lower for May and May oats lost 3gc. Pro visions scored good advances. The crowd had wheat forsale at 5474c for May at the opening, and in the course of an hour it worked down to 5454@ | 5434c. It showed no signs of recovering until the clearances from New York were found to amount 10 the equivalent of 354,000 bushels in wheat and flour together. A recovery then to 54%c took place. Bradstreet's visible statement reporied a decrease n wheat stocks on both ‘sides of the Rockies in this country of 2,194,000 bushels and sn_increase in and afloat for Europe of 384,000 bushels, making a net decrease of 1,810,000 bushels in the world’s stock. No change in the price here occurred immedi- ately after the annonncement. The Minneapolls and Duluth receipts to-day were 295 cars, against 873 a year ago, and the Atlantic port clearances of wheat and fiour agzregated 332,000 bush The continental demand for wheat is said to be very much in excess of the English purchases shipped from the Baltic and sundry other ports last week, the United Kingdom taking 610,000 bushels and the continental countries 2,400,000 bushels, and the respective proportions of the ship- ments of the week previons were: To the United Kingdom, 400,000 bushels, and to the Continent, 1,840,000 bushels. The price touched 55c about middey and efterward remained firm at around 5474c, which was bid at the close. Corn opened weak and a_heavy feeling prevailed | throughout the session. Compared with Monday’s closing prices stocks sold higher yesterday morning. Con. Cal. & Va. rose to $2 75 on the noon informal session, Uphir to $1 65, Sierra Nevada to 84c, Unlon to 57¢, and the other stocks in proportion. Prices were weaker on the afternoon call continued to decline after the adjournment, cross selling down to $1 25, though there was a re- action again at the close.
