His name is John Butler, and he is only twenty years old. He is a pardner to the notori- ous Bob Green, who has been evs t- ing revenue officers for the prot years. His home is in the Blo er section of Calloway county, wi he was captured night before ‘1! Deputy La Rue received a \') weeks ago that Butler was at home, but could not get away then. He left day before yesterd: and reaching the neighborhood, went to the home ‘of oO ff Butler's neighbors and re- mained until o'clock in the morn- ing. Armed with a gun and lantern, he then proceeded to Butler's abode. He thought the door would give, and threw his whole weight against ity but to no purpose. It was solid and came near disabling him, He then began beating on the door with the butt end of the gun, and d manded that it be opened. He heard Butler's mother, who seemed to rec- ‘ognize the voice of the deputy mar- shal say: ‘‘John, its Mr. La Rue, and he’s come fur you shore now."’ John said all right, and got up. He did not want to open the door until he dressed, but the officer insisted Butler said he intended Paducah and give bimselfup, but never vid have the money, His story is an Interesting one. His father owned a small farm two or three years ago, and he and his wife separated. One went one way and the other an oth- er, Each expected the other to care for the four chilren, whom they left with John, then, about 18. He was their sole support, and could not well ee the wolf from the door. Bob sn ntl me ta have a good heurt but a bad disposivion with it, invited him over to share his unpre- tentious domicile, and the youth was forced to accept the offer. He and the three small children lived with Green who shared bed and crust with them, until finally Green found an old still, and went into the whiskey Tle used Butler as an as+ but Butler claims he had nothing to do with making the whis- key. He was only helping Green through gratitude. One night the revenue officers made wo a raid on Green's still, and demolish- ed it. Green and Butler escaped, and afterwards the officers had a fight with Green, Butler went across the state line into Tennessee, and there remai until a short time ago. Green is still there, making whisk When the Tennessee officers go after him he crosses into Kentucky, out of their reach, and when Kentucky offi- cers go after him he crosses finto Tennessee, His still Is near the state line. Butler is a very respectable looking youth, and the officer disliked to put him in jail last night. He will b given a trial tomorrow morning, TRAIN DELAY ED.
