The Sanitary and Sewerage Com- mittees Called to Meet To- vight to Discuss the Sew- erage Ordinance, tees Are Mixnomers—Twe Armatures Burned Out at the City Plant — Councilman eton Here. From Pr ‘The inayor has called the sewerage and sanitary committees together to meet tonight and eonsider the ordix nance relative to connecting with the sewerage mains. An ordinance has been drafted, but when an effort was mace to imtroduce it into the council the sanitary committee objected be- cause it had not been consulted in the matter of draftivg the ordinance Action for this reason was postpoved and the committees, which are com- posed of Councilmen Smith, Clark, Robertson, Johnson and Elliott, are called to meet at the city ball at 7:30 o'clock with the mayor and City Engineer Postlewasite. The or- dipance is s copy of one of four the committees sent for to ascertain how they are operated in other cities. They do not require any one to con- nect with the sewerage who does not want to, and it is thought that the committees will readily agree to it. Mayor Lang s that he thinks several of the council committees are misnowers, uamely, the committee known as the sanitary and hospital, should be the hospital and pauper, as the two go together, and the sani- tary and sewerage committees ought to be the same. He is thinking of remodeling the committees to suit his views, Supt. W. J. Harahan has written Mayor Lang that he is giving the matter of making parks here on the railroad company’s various sites all over the city, his attention, aud has ordered sll people having material or obstructions on the railroad cow- pany’s property, toremove at once. This order is especially true of the river front site, near Broadway. The bill board has been ordered taken away, the work of filling it will begin at once, The railroad company will have @ half dozen parks in vari- ous parts of the city by spring Work on the one near the ‘'Y at Ninth and Trimble bas already be gun. ‘The mayor takes a great desl of credit to himself for getting the railroad company interested in the matter, as he was the first city of- ficial to take itup and agitate it. The city electric lights are occa- sioning no little complaint in parts of the city, especially the First ward. Mayor Lang was this morn- ing asked what the trouble is, and he replied that he understood that two armatures bad heen burned out since the new superintendent took charge some and this made a shortage in the lights. Supt. Wallace is rewinding them himself, which will save the city a couple of hundred dollars. Councilman T. H. King, of Prince- ton,’Ky., was in the city this morn- ing en route to St. Louis, He stopped over to see Mayor Lang, and visit the fire department. Many yea near the old town of Bowling Green, Ky., a young mivister of the gospel of love and peace, wedded a young lady—young in years and experience—to be his wife. She loved him with that dis- imterested fervor of a woman's first and early love. But she was young and inexperienced, and however much ber young husband may have advised her, she does not seem to have been proef against the wicked and designing. Her husband Was prosperous and provident. She had everything to live for, and per- haps surrounded by a host of friends who knew ber in ber childhood, to- gether with other circumstances well calculated to make such an one happy. Yet, in the face of all this, following the lead ef that man whos presence in mavy cowmupities has made many bearts bleed, she left her bappy home in Warren county two years ago and became a wanderer from the presence of hima whose love fad blessed and cherished her. She finally landed in this city where it was learwed she had lived unlawfully with the second man. The other week took to her bed, where perhaps through inatten- tion, she lingered until her death, which eccurred last Sunday night Forsaken by pretended friends and deceivers, and away from ker hewe, and without ceremon her remains were laid to rest, by the city, im pot- ter's field.
