Ben Murrell’s freight wagon was crossing State Line street, about 8 o’elock, whea one of three freight trains that were standing on side tracks, started to backing. There was a driver and a boy in the wagon. The boy was Kee Jones, aged about 16 years, The driver jumped out and was uninjured, but the boy, seemingly bewildered by the peril in which he was placed, remained in the wagon, and was struck by the train. e wagon was demolished, and one of the horses killed. The wheels of the train passed over the boy, aud cut both his legs off. He was rea. dered all possible assistance, ampu- tation being necessary, but it is thopght he cannot recover. DEAD And Private Sheibourne’s Com + rades Were Happy. WAS Ne Louis Republic The friends and relatives of Joho Shelbourne, a private in the United States army, will no doubt be glad to learn that he is alive and not dead as has been reported. Private John Shelbourne of Co. D died| yesterday morning in the en- gineer's camp hospital, that his regi- might have a death record, and was! immediately afterwards resur- rectéd for the benefit of his relatives and, frends. Shelbourne is a native atic, his home being at Pa. a For some time he has been very ill with malarial fever. He grew worse Tuesday and early yesterday morning was reported about the regiment as dead, It was the talk of the camp, and great sorrow prevailed, Several comrades sat down and prepared a letter to send to his family, and others started to look for timber, from which to make a pine box. Up to that time the regiment had not had a death and the news of Shelbourne’s demise awed the men, But when the sun came over the trees from the east and Surgeon Lyon sauntered down to the hospitel, this was all changed. Shelbourne’s death had been reported by an orderly, who felt the sick man’s pallid brow and found it cold, and mistook improve- ment in his condition for death. There wes great rejoicing on Engineer Hill when the true facts were revealed, and mo one is happier than Private Shelboure himself, Don’t forget the name, J. F f Greenville, Ky., s'ating that ther: was no doubt that the young i killed in jail here was his son, Alvin Dwyer.’ He said he bad heard nothing of his son’s tragic death until the coroner wrote bim, His son, he said, left a good home and employment about four weeks ago, and be had heard nothing about him since until the letter was re- ceived announcing his death. He or he was somewhere Dwyer an account of the accident, and who was to blame for it. Hesaid his son was 19 years old, and requested the return of his pistol, and whatever other effects he may have had here. Also details of his burial, Nothing was said about sending for the re- mains. Dwyer, it will be recalled, was killed'in jail here while protruding his head as the cells were being turned. It was his own fanit, and the remains were buried in the coun- ty graveyard, nothing being known at the time of his family. The J. N.
