Re- cently a well-known dealer on the west side of this thoroughfare, be- tween Fifth and Longworth streets, thought he had solved the problem of how to do away with the little pests. His scheme was all right, provided the birds did their expected part, but, with the exasperation which only a sparrow can cause, they refused to do any such thing. The trick adopted by the dealer was the old one of trap- ping the little nuisances, A largewire cage had been especially constracted for them, and this was placed on one of the telegraph poles amidst the low- er wtrand of wires upon which the sparrows were wont to take up their nightly roost. At either end of the cage were large trap doors which th dealer intended to suddenly close foon as the pests had flown into it, When roosting time camo there had congregated on the sidewalks a crowd of such proportions that traffic was considerably impeded.
