Washington, June 30.—The fol- lowing report was received by the navy department yesterday : On the morning of June 16 the batteries at the entrance of Santiago were subjected to a severe bombard- ment by the fleet. The firing was deliberate and im general most excel-/ lent. The batteries were quickly) silenced. On June 16 the Texas, Marblebead| and Suwanee destroyed the batteries at Guantanamo. On June 16 the Yankee engaged the Spanish gunboat off Cienfuegos, on June 17 Lieut. Harlow, with two steam launches, one under Cadet Powell and one un- der Cadet Hart, made an examina- tion of Cabanas bay. The launches were subjected to a heavy and continuous fire at short) range, and were struck 17 times, al- though no one was hurt. Lieut. Harlow, in his report, particularly praises the conduct of Cadets Hart and Powell and Coxswains O'Dcn-| nell and Bloom. On June 19 Garcia and his staff visited the flagship having arrived that morning at Gen. Rabi’s camp at Acerraderoa, My impressions of Garcia are of the most pleasing char- acter.
