This Morning— Killed By « Heavy Timber While at Work, a Family, All of Whom A Well Known Here—Ffu- eral Arrangements, Mr. George T. Hart, the well known carpenter, was instantly killed this morning about 8 o'clock at the Palmer-Ferguson hard wood factory ander course of erection on South Third street near the terminal. He was employed on the force penters, and at the time of the ent was sitting astride a |) piece of quartered oak sawing the sorner off. The frame work to the tory is of heavy timber, and near him a big oak post weighing (00 or pounds was standing, ready to be fastened, Workmen were preparing to hoist a cross beam with a derrick, when in some manner the post that was standing toppled over, The toy of it struck Mr. Hart with terrific force on the back of the neck and head, and when he fell over the huge beam crushed his skull like an egg shell against the beam upon which he was sitting. Several horrified workmen saw the recideot aod rushed to the unfortun- ale man’s assistance. He was picked up and carried about fifty feet away, but was practically dead, only gasp ing a time or two after they reached him. He never spoke when the beam struck him, and bad been sitting there at work only afew moments. The beam as it fell narrowly missed one or two others. The head of the victim was horri- bly mashed, and his neck was broken The beam, after it crushed his head, fell across his arm. A large crowd was on the scene, and Coroner Phelps was called to hola an inquest, The verdict was that he was accidently killed while at work.
