A shrewd swindler lias been de- tected in his attempted frauds against a well-known local establishment— the Harbour-Pitts Shoe Company. Within the past two or three days he has purchased from five different firms in Boston nearly $15,000 worth of goods, consisting of shoes, ete., nearly all of which have been shipped to the Harbour-Pitts company here since Friday. Mr. Harbour, when the duplicate orders or memoranda wete received, promptly notifled the respective houses that no such or- ders were authorized by the com- pany, but most of the goods had al- ready been filled, and the houses will now be at a great expense to defray freight. Mr, Harbour was very much as- tonisbed when he ascertained that thousands of dollars worth of goods that be had never ordered and knew nothing about were being consigoed to hith.
