LINN KILLED MILAS BRADSHAW, COLORED, Philip Linn, ex-town marshal of Brooklyn, Lll., will go to the peni- tentiary for 16 years. Such was the verdict returned by the jury at 4 o’clock this mornin, Metropolis after having been fifteen hours. Linn was tried for killing Milas Bradshaw, alias ‘‘Lightning Bug,’ colored, formerly of Paducah, who lived on a shanty boat with a woman claiming to be his wife, at Brooklyn. It is said that Linn was also on inti- mate terms with the women, and bad several times threatened to get Bradshaw out of the way. One day he killed him, and his version was} that he shot the darkey as he was ad- vancing with a knife, but the woman told a different story. At the preliminary hearing Linn was held without bail, but secured a change of venue and was tried at Mound City, Pulaski county, on a writ of habeas corpus, and again de- nied bail. He had been in jail sev- eral weeks until the trial was taken up Monday, After several futile trials, a jury was secured, being composed of the following : J. F. McBride, T. C. Cobb, John} Fraizer, Sr., Noa Summers, Thad- eus Bonifield, Thomas Barrett, James ig at out Laird, Jr., Thomas Hurt, A. H. Brown, George W. Laird, H. D. Frye and A. A. English.
