Many other cases, it is believed, which "have never come to light helped Wittman reap his harvest in Omaha the thirty days he remained here. Included in his equipment were electric machines which he claimed cost $5,000, but .which it was later discovered could be purchased at Omaha stores for $22. Make Their Get-Away. In May, 1913, the indictment against Wittman, his wife, and Brantley was returned in the Omaha court. Witt- man had fireviously departed from Omaha. His wife and Brantley were still here at the time, but skipped be- fore they could be arrested, Coble started in pursuit of Brant- ley and discovered him in Memphis, Tenn., where he was first discharged by the United States commissioner, later indicted by the grand jury, but acquitted because he was merely an assistant of Dr. Wittman, believed to be the real culprit, Brantley, however, gave Coble in- formation which led to Dr. Wittman's arrest in Colorado Springs. Wittman was held under bond of $500 after a preliminary heafing before the com- missioner in the Colorado city. Witt- man immediately jumped the bond and went ea Fake 'Drowning. Coble pursued him to Flushing, N. Y., where Wittman attempted to stage a “fake” drowning, Some of his clothes were found on the river bank. But the ruse failed to trick the officer, because it was learned the clothes found on the river were not those he wore when last seen leav- ing the hotel at which he had been stopping. hen Wittman went to Europe and then to Australia. He returned a lit- tle over a month ago. He went to Wheeling, where he was arrested, im- mediately after the boat docked at San Francisco, passing through Omaha on the journey. He had been in Wheeling a month when Coble cap- tured him, and was selling an alleged remedy he called “Vinlax.” To Be Brought Here. A preliminary was held in Wheeling before United States Commissioner George E. Boyd, who ordered Witt- man held under bonds of $5,000. Judge A. G. Dayton issued the order of re- moval which brings Dr. Wittman from Wheeling to Omaha for trial. Dr, Wittman's wife, who was with him in Omaha, was granted a divorce shortly after her husband became a fugitive from justice. Dr, Wittman married again while in Australia and brought his bride to America with him, She declares she intends to stick DRIVING team, 7 and §-ysars-old: bu harness.
