SUNDAY TALKS BENSON STUDENTS High Schoo]l Pupils Greet Evange- list and “Ms” and “Rody” with the Schoo)] Yell. SPEAKS AT CENTRAL SCHOOL When “Billy” Sunday, accom- panied by Mrs. Sunday, “Rody” and George Brewster, reached the erowded auditorium of the Benson high school he was greeted by the high school yell. Prof. John Bpeedie introduced the party and “Rody” entertained' the young people with music, playing “0Old Kentucky Home" medleys. The songs were jolned in by the audience. “Rody” detected the voice and face of one of his best choir singers among the corps of singers and pointed her out to the audience, which caused laughter and applause. Mr. Sunday began bLy saying he % was not going to preach a sermon, but Just give a talk, choosing for his | minutes he gave a talk full of good advice to young men and women of the high school and all seventh and eighth graders of Benson. t “Idleness puta the akids under motre young people than any other one thing,” | said the evangelist. “Idlensss cauvses you | to lose apportunities to better yourselves | and it invites to mischief and puts flaws | |inte your charmcter witeh will work | aguinst you all the time.' He advised them to be kind and recom- mended to every boy and girl to “try to |be an alligator, because the alligator never stops growing as long as it lives.” | | In His Best Form. | Mr. Sunday's talk was long and in e best form. At its close the young son of Prof. Speedie carried forward a splendid { bouquet of red and white roses, presented to Mr. and Mrs. Sunday with the com- pliments of the school. After a brief talk by strs. Sunday the party left for the Central school, where both Mr, and Mrs. Sunday made short talks to the grade school pupils. “Biily” commented on the excellent econdition of the Henson schools and told the children that, an he was once a school janitor, he “knew what be was talking about” when | he sald their physical up-keep was ex- cellent, “Ma” declared in her lttls talk to the grade pupils that “Billy” iearned to dust #0 well when he was a Janitor that he is still good at It and can dust off the furniture with his hanakerchief per- fectly. };e Are My iVitnec In the sermon at the Tabernacle Fri- day afternocon Mr. Sunday said: Text: “But ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you, l‘ Snd yo shall ba witnesses unto Me, both i Jerusalem and in all Judes and Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.” Acts |, 8. That means in the slums, in soclety, in the store, on the rallroad, wherever you are. Josus Christ staked His cause upon the character and the lives and the utterances of His followers. He staked salvation upon you and ¥ what you will do. When He left He | wanted you to learn His words and i principles and tell them to others. He taught His disciples that they might tedch others and others teach you and you teach others. All right, that's just what we are doing today. But If you believe it and don't live it then you are not doing His teach- e —— a ‘ the Uttermost Parts of the Earth | In Isalah, 434 chapter, God issues a challenge to the world, “Let them bring forth My witnesses and that they may | be justitied. Yo ure My witneases, said the Lord, and My servants whom I have | ses Even to I have I will give unto thee. and go thy way."” And the people saw and believed. Do you think he would have had the power If he had just come from some dance, or some bridge-whist party or some cheap skate leg show? That's the reason a lot of you haven't power today. That's the reason a lot of you church members are not worth three whoops this side of perdition, God doesn’t want the milk-and-water and chalk-and-cider kind of stuff you call religion. Your religion is not virlle. You don’t know how to hit the ball for Jesus, You aren't up to the mark on your feet for that, and it's no wonder that the devil has the drop on you and s able to make you ome, two, thres strikes and you're out. You haven't the punch that produces the sleeper. About the best you can do i to give the devil a few love taps and when he jams you against the ropes it ls then that you turn to the Great Referee to save you from a knockout. It's an insult to profess to be Chris- tians and )ive the way some of you do, It would be an Insult to profess to love your husband and live with some one else. When Jacob gave Joseph his coat of Chasen."” He says, “Bring forth your witnesses and I'll bring forth My witneases and then you can choose.” That's what He is dolng today. He says to the thieves, thugs, prostitutes, saloon keepers, ‘Come, e e o ihem choose.” ©If the saoon keeper feels happler In dapensing booze than the wen't touch the rotten stuff, wuman who s welling her lite Jox than the pure, virtuous “them brimg forth wit they prove it i i i i H : 1 £ ol § i : F i ff i £ H g !
