Florence 225, Pioneer Woman Who Had Thrilling Times With the Redskins Oarrie Lowe of the Rdward Lynch players at the Brandels theater is in an unusually happy stats of mind just now. Her Aunt Kate is here from Syracuse, Neb. The name of the relative is in- soribed on the register at the Wellington as “Mrs. Kate Hedges,” but Miss Lowe calls her “Aunt Kate." Mrs. Hedges has resided on the same site at Syracuse since 1861, when she and husband, Rochester Hedges, urrived by stoamer from Cincinnatl, Mr. Hedkes was state representative in 1864-1865. Mrs, Hedges is recounting for the par- ticular benefit of Miss Lowe experiences with the Indians fifty years ago. On one ocoasion she compelled three Indians to disarm before they entered her home. with guns and bows and arrows and knives. The worst scare “Aunt Kate” ever had with an Indian was when a brave started to follow her upstairs by way of the old- fashioned Iadder used in the ploneer homes. She scared the Indlan by throw- ing & rolling pin at him. Watchman Keeps Eye On School Children A Missourl Pacific watchman is now stationed at the Martha street crossing of the Belt Line, largely as a result of the agitation arising on the subject at the Hanscom Park Improvement club meetings. Some weeks ago the club started an agi- tation for a viaduct at that point and another at the point where the sunken boulevard crosses Pacific street. The Martha street crossing of the Belt Line was considered especially danger- ous to children that had to cross there to get to Windsor school. Freight trains switching and moving about frequently have occasion to stop at that point, thus blocking the path and the crossing. School children In a hurry to get to cars to get to school.
