This in substance is the word | received Tuesday by Gould Diets ks from Colonel Frank Coffee, an £ American capitalist who has lived in Sidney, Australia, for the last thirty i yoars. Colonel Coffes, & son, Frank, formerly & reporter fn Vancouver and Melbourne, | § | enlisted as a private four months ago, but has been promoted until now he is a leutenant. Various causes are assigned for the hostile feeling toward America. The public has been very bitter, the writer says, but attributes the hitterness of Aus- tralian newspapers that have been giving the impression that America has been Influenced axainst the allles. The writer thinks that the papers are to blame, not because of what they say, but by reason of what they omit. Toll Bridge Owner to Fight Proposed New Elkhorn Bridge The Ashland Bridge company has mar- shaled its forces for a fight against a proposed Inter-county bridge between Saanders and Douglas counties over the | Eikhorn river, which is proposed to make a direct road between Yutan and Omaha. Douglas and Saunders county commis- | sloners are in favor of the bridge and have agreed that the counties shall Jointly finance the bullding of such a bridge. There is one more requirement, how- ever. Such a project must have the senc- tion of a special board appols engineer, the commissioner of public bufldings and other state officials. A meeting of this board is to be held soon, and it is expected that at that time the company controlling the private toll bridge at Ashiand will make a fight to prevent the proposed Yutan bridge from getting the official sanction.
