County Burveyor W. A. Racely was called and veritied drawings made of the place shortly after the murder, showing the position of the house, buldings, and rooms In the house. Lorin Wolton was called and testfed that there were several men in the room adjoining the one in which the murder was committed and that thoy were play- ing cards. Wolton also identitied = the photographs of the house taken after the murder, which the attorneys for the de- fense tried to have stricken out because Mrs. Cochran was in the photographs and in this way she would be giving testi-! mony against her husband, but Judge Graves overruled their objection, Woiton | 8lso produced the bullet found on his floor the mornfng after the murdor. Little Girl Tells Story. Vivian Wolton, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wolton who was in the kitchen when the murder was committed, was next called by the state and sub- stantiated the testimony given by her parents, The defense objected to the ad- ministering the oath to the Jittle girl, but the judge held differently and the oath ‘was aduiinistered. Her testimony was #o0 well given as to cause some comment among the great crowq of spectators who bave been in aftendance to every part of the case. She told vividly how she had been In the kichen with her mother, Mrs. Cochran, her brother, and John Jump, when Cochran entered the room without knocking and irhmediately began shoot- ing at Jump with the revolver he held In his hand when he entered the room. Dr. Francis, of Bancroft, told of at- tending the wounded man and how he had held little hopes of his recovering without an operation. Jump was taken to Omaha on his advice, but it was on the way to Omaha that the iImportant de- velopments took place from which he was called. He told of Jump asking for his father and mother while they were on the train. The defense here tried to prove that Jump had also asked for Irene (Mrs, | Cochran), but Dr. Francls said that it [Tump had asked for her he had not heard him. ‘Nebraska School News AUBURN, Neb, May 80.—(Special.)— The commencement exercises of the Au- burn High school were held In the au- ditorlum of the new high school build- ing last evening.
