Among other discoveries made by the city council's pure water committee was the fact that the Water board has never turned over its hand in an effort to securé an improvement in the condition of the water, nor broached the matter to the Omaha Water company. Councilmen Berks, Hummel and Kugel, the special committee of the city council toexamine Into the city water question, sperit Friday morning in an inspection of the Hamilton street reservqlr and the Burt Street pumping station. “We found a very undesirable condition existing at the Burt ifreet station,” said Councilman Berka. “The place i8 low and the location is about as bad as could be found for such a station. The surface of the water must be coutinually covered with soot, smoke and cinders. The lce on the place 1s now covered with these things. And the water 18 very low. Neither is the plant there in good physical condition, being In need of repairs to make it any- fhing like as effective as it might be. “At the Hamilton street reservoir the Wurface is solidly frosen over and the water In the reservoir is low.
